Betty johnson Banks

January 29, 1925 ~ August 3, 2016 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Betty Johnson Banks, age 91, of Dalton went to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning, II Corinthians 5:8 "To be absent from the body and present with the Lord" became a reality for her.


She was a native of Asheville, NC. and moved to Dalton in 1970 when her late husband Rev. Maurice Banks accepted the pastorate of McFarland Hill Baptist Church. She is at home with her loving husband of 56 years, Rev. Maurice Banks, her son, Ken Banks, parents, Rev. K.B. and Mary Johnson, Sisters, Marian Crawford, Frances Parris, brothers, Kenneth and Rev. Jack Johnson and Son in law, Clay Dover. 


Waiting to be united in heaven with her are: her daughters and sons in law, Mary Ruth and Rev. Walter Hare, Cindy and Curtis Evans, daughter in law, Joan Banks, grandsons and wives, Michael Banks, Matthew and Patty Banks, Stephen and Sara Hare, Philip and Julie Hare,  and Jonathan Hare,  brother, Rev. Clifford Johnson and sister, Nancy Browning,  great grand sons, Theory, Cain, Max, and Kaden Banks, Dee, Luke, and Seth Hare, nieces and nephews. Many family members and a host of friends and loved ones.


She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 12. She was married to the love of her life at the age of 17. She was instrumental in every aspect of her husbands ministry serving 13 churches in three states, She sang in trios, leading choirs, teaching God's Word and her greatest joy was winning the lost. She was a business woman, owner and operator of hair salons. She was care giver of her husband for many years. She loved being a home maker, cooking, singing, and spending time with her family and friends.


A celebration of her life will be Saturday Aug. 6, 2016 at 2 pm at New Town Baptist Church in Calhoun with Rev. Walter Hare, Randy Postell, Steve Rhinehart and Bob Hagan officiating.  She will lie in state 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Shawn Chapman Funeral Home, Friday 5 till 9 pm.
