Sibyl "Ruth" (Hawkins) Young Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sibyl “Ruth” Hawkins Young age 101, She passed away at her home surround by her loving family. She was a remarkable woman, Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a charter member of Maranatha Baptist Church, Sunday School teacher, she read her bible over 90 times. She was a Quilter, she quilted over 200 quilts and enjoyed going to the Chief Vann House to Quilt. Her Chief Van House Quilt was amazing. She always had a beautiful garden all the way into her mid 80’s, she lived in the family home that was built by her father. She never owned a television. She also was a wonderful cook.


Preceded in death by her parents, John and Sibyl Hawkins; husband, J.E. “Bo” Young; who she was married to for 62 years, son, Minton, brothers, Glen Hawkins, Vernon Hawkins, Frank Hawkins, and Roy Hawkins.


Ruth is survived by her daughter, Wonda Wilson (Ron); granddaughter, Melissa White (Steve); grandson, Reno Blalock; great-grandchildren, Tyler Greene (Kristen), Haley Reich (Michael), and Matthew White. Special nephews and nieces who loved her dearly.


A special thanks to caregiver Amy Long and Tapestry Hospice.


Pallbearers are: Harry Hawkins, Tyler Greene, Matthew White, Michael Reich, John Paul Hawkins, and Grant Fuller. Honorary Pallbearers are Leroy Hawkins and Reno Blalock.

A service to honor the life of Sibyl “Ruth” Young will be 1:30 PM Monday, July 6, 2026, at Maranatha Baptist Church with Pastor Andrew Corbin and Danny Jenkins officiating. Interment will be in the Maranatha Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 11 AM to 1 PM.
