Maynard Young passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Monday, September 16, 2024. 

Born on March 15, 1937, in Tilton, Georgia, Maynard was the son of the late James “Pete” and Hugh Fox Young.  He graduated from Murray County High School in 1955.  He married his high school sweetheart, Edna Turner, in 1955, and together they raised two children, Tony and Teresa (Teica).

Maynard was a veteran of the United States Army and had a long and successful career in the service station business, Walnut Avenue BP, and served the Dalton community for over 60 years.  He was a man of integrity, known for his kindness, generosity, and love of family.  His passions included running a successful cattle farm, spending time with his family, and serving his community on the Murray County School Board, Murray County Hospital Board, Lions Club, Cattleman’s Association, volunteering, and serving as a deacon at Spring Place Baptist Church.  Throughout his life, Maynard remained a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all he encountered.  

Maynard was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years Edna Turner Young; sisters Fannie Ingle, Dorothy Young, and Jennie Carder brothers Walter Young, Charlie Young, and Tommy Young.

Maynard is survived by his adoring children, Tony & Laura Young and Adam & Teresa Sluder, grandchildren, Justin Young & Janell Morisette, Travis Young, Ryan Young, Lynsey Young, Alison Young & Wyatt Erwin, Maisie Sluder and Myles Sluder, great-grandchild, Reverie Morisette and lots of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Shawn Chapman Funeral Home on Thursday, September 19th, 2024 from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Spring Place Baptist Church, followed by a burial at Spring Place Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Spring Place Baptist Church in Maynard’s memory, 441 Highway 225 S, Chatsworth, GA 30705.
