Martha Sue “Susie” Wilbanks Ridley, age 94, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at her home.
She was born on August 28, 1928, and a lifelong resident of Murray County. She was the daughter of the
late James Alfred Wilbanks and Adaline Levina Cox Wilbanks, also of Murray County.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Ridley Sr.; siblings,
Eugenia Smith, Helen Alford, James Wilbanks Jr., Ralph Wilbanks, Edwin Wilbanks Sr., and John Wilbanks
Sr.; stepchildren, Clarence Ridley Jr., Mickey Ridley, and Bobby Ridley; one son-in-law, Robert Jeffers, Sr.
and one grandson, Daniel Jeffers.
She was a Graduate of Murray County High School. She worked at Coronet Industries and retired from
Beaulieu of America. She was a member of Free Hope Baptist Church, the Spring Place Ruritan Club, and
the Murray County Senior Club. She enjoyed baking, cooking, playing BINGO, shopping with her friends-
Iva Planzer and Ellene Edge, watching the Braves, gardening, attending her grandchildren’s sporting
events, and visiting Ellijay for pies and apples.
Mrs. Ridley is survived by her brother, Harry Wilbanks; daughters, Phyllis (Curtis) Cochran, Cynthia
Jeffers, Carol (Jerome) Parrott, one “adopted” daughter, Susan Longley; stepdaughter, Mildred (Charles)
Hughes. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Melody Cochran, Jon Cochran, Seth Cochran, Carson
(Seng) Jeffers, Tiffany (Ben) Longley, and Amy Ward; six great-grandchildren, Chelsea (Win) Auerbach,
Carissa (CJ) Blaney, Caleb (Lauren) Jeffers, Cindy Jeffers, Cameron Longley, Carter Longley, and Chance
(Katie) Ward; three great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Martha Sue “Susie” Ridley will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022,
at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home with Tim Howard and Barbara Baggett Dick speaking, Interment will be Treadwell Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
on Friday, November 4, 2022.
