John Paul Mayfield of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away on June 20, 2026 at AdventHealth
Gordon in Calhoun, Georgia after a courageous battle fighting cancer.
John was born in Lawrenceville, Illinois to Claude Stewart Mayfield and Iva Venis Fleenor on
February 17, 1938. He married Eleanor Dominguez on July 15, 1963 in Rubidoux, California.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and upon his release
was awarded an Honorable Discharge along with a Good Conduct Medal. John became a
master cabinet maker having his craftmanship showcased in numerous magazines and later
worked as a truck driver for over 35 years.
John is preceded in death by his parents; his three siblings, Patty Pierson, Jack Mayfield, Joe
Mayfield; his oldest daughter, Bethany Mayfield; one great grandson, John Gavin Mayfield and
one great granddaughter, Ruby Gwen Jones.
John is survived by his loving wife of almost 63 years, Eleanor Mayfield; his daughter and son-
in-law, Karen and Eddie Jones; his grandchildren, Heather (Jariah) Adcock, Mary Merrick,
Vanessa Jackson, Tommy (Mary-Leigh) Jones, Justin (Alana) Jones, Landon (Mary-Catherine)
Jones; and his great grandchildren, Brianna Weller, Savannah Weller, Joseph Weller, Lucius
Jackson, Layla Jackson, Lawrence Jackson, Eleanor Jean Jones, Gibson Thomas Jones and many
other beloved family members including two sister-in-law’s and many nephews and nieces.
John was a proud and faithful member of the Northside Church of Christ and he loved his
brothers and sisters in Christ more than he could ever express.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 26 at 3:00 p.m. at the Northside Church of
Christ located at 700 Jolly Rd, Calhoun, Georgia 30701. The family will receive guests for a
brief visitation from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
