It is with great sorrow that Jerry's wife and son announce that Jerry Stephen Burgess has gone to his heavenly home. We rejoice that Jerry is completely healed.

Jerry was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, his entire life. His parents Elton and Bonnie Burgess were charter members. He has been with the El Shadhi Sunday School class for years. 

Jerry was the owner of the Burgess Softball field. He loved the game of softball. He played coached, umpired, and put on tournaments, that brought him so much joy.  In September 2007 Jerry was inducted into the softball hall of fame. He was recognized for his outstanding ability and achievements as a player and coach.

Jerry was also a great hunter. He founded "Dalton Buckhunters Club" He lead this for years and the club is still going strong today.

He also was a member of the Georgia Archaeological Society. He loved hunting for Arrowheads. He also put on the first Arrowhead Show for the public in Dalton GA.

Jerry was a member of the Pleasant Grove Promenaders Square Dance Club for thirty years. He loved it and brought in many people to enjoy the fellowship and fun.

Jerry retired from Shaw Industries Plant # 80. He worked until he was 74 years old.
Jerry was a dedicated Georgia Bulldogs Fan.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Bonnie Burgess; sister, Mary Nell (Boots) Smith, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Simpson, and  Lelia Norris; three brothers-in-law, George Wilburn, and Wes Norris.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Loretta Norris Burges; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Sonya Burgess; two grandchildren, Nathan and Emily; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Connie Burgess; sister and brother-in-law, Lorine and David Lumpkin, Dot Massengill, Carol, Sharon, and JoAnn Norris; nieces, nephews and cousins that he loved. His faithful pets, Mama Cat and Taxi

A service to honor the life of Jerry Burgess will be 3 pm Saturday, July 8, 2023, in the chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home with Brian Branam, Billy Willis, and Tim Ausmus officiating. The Interment will be in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, July 8, 2023, from 11 am to 3 pm
