James Eugene “Hank” Burchfield, 69, of Crandall, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center.

Hank was born on November 14, 1954, in Tucson, Arizona. He began working at Fort Mountain Spinners after graduating from Murray County High School in 1973 and retired from the plant in 2019. He was an avid reader and could talk on almost any subject. His niece found a quote that could describe him: “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, SM Sgt. Jewel Calvin and Mary Mozelle Phillips Burchfield, brother David Calvin Burchfield, grandparents Burdon Eugene and Eunice Griffin Burchfield, and James Monroe and Arlene Theresa Horton Phillips.

Survivors include his three sisters, Melissa Burchfield, Teresa (Louis) Boyd, and Nancy (James) Adams, nieces Jessica and Devin Boyd, nephews Tyler and John David Adams, and great nieces Chandler and Baleigh Adams.

The family will receive friends and family at the Shawn Chapman Funeral Home on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 10 am to noon, with a funeral to follow in the chapel. The interment will be at Sumach Cumberland Presbyterian Church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
