Hazel M. Smith

Hazel M. Smith, 90, of Chatsworth, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in her home on the afternoon of June 1, 2023. She was born in Gilmer County, Georgia, to the late Elder T.C. Mooney and Ollie Weaver Mooney. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur C.. Smith, and all of her siblings, Lawrence Mooney, Leonard Mooney, Luther Mooney, Rebie Bullock, Senie Weaver, Lillie Ellis, Clara Wheeler, Opal Easley & Edna Vickers.

She is survived by her children, Calvin (Tammy) Smith and Greg Smith of Chatsworth, and Emily (Tim) Gerke of Acworth, as well as her grandchildren, Travis (Kristin) Gerke of Fallbrook, CA,
Brad and Jessica Gerke, of Acworth, C.J. Smith, Brett (Paiton) Smith, and Lucas Smith of Chatsworth; great-grandchildren, Merit & Eliot Gerke and Remi Smith, sisters-in-law, Ruth Taylor of Crandall, Mae Elliott of Chatsworth, and Ethel Mooney of Ellijay, as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews she loved dearly.

Hazel graduated from Piedmont College in 1960 and taught school in Augusta, Chamblee, Dalton, and retired from Murray County Schools. She was a longtime member of Tickanetley
Primitive Baptist Church. She was an amazing cook who was especially known for her desserts She loved to garden and crochet and most of all being with her family. She was a devoted
mother and grandmother.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at 3:00 pm from the chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home with Elder Ed Vickers officiating. Interment will follow in the Center
Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 5 pm to 8 pm.
