Donald Anderson Obituary

Mr. Donald Dale Anderson, age 96, of Dalton, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Dale was born on October 19, 1927, to Paul and Ella Anderson (Williams) of Dalton,  After graduating from Dalton High School in 1944, he joined the Armed Forces to fight fascism.  He served in the U S Navy on a mine sweeper in the Pacific during World War II.  After the war, he returned to the States and married his high school sweetheart, Marie Anderson(Metcalf).  After living for a few years in Marietta, GA., the couple returned to Dalton and raised a family of several generations.  When Marie passed away in June 2020, they had been married for 72 years and together for 76 years.

Dale was the loving and proud father of four sons, David(Debra) Anderson of Dalton,  John Anderson of Newnam, Joel Anderson of Rome, and Thomas Anderson of Decatur: two grandsons, Jacob (Whitney) Anderson of Dalton and Joshua (Amanda) Anderson of Dalton and five great-grandchildren, Greyson, Emmie Lou. Asa James, Eleanor, and Isla.  He is also survived by loving nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

As a lifelong Methodist, Dale was a founding member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a man of deep and abiding faith.  His faith, combined with his gentle nature led him to treat everyone with respect and kindness. He was also devoted to his country and family.  After 37 years of service in the Navy, Veterans Administration, and US Postal Service, Dale retired from federal government services and spent more time with his children, grandchildren, and friends, gardening, traveling, wood carving, and working in local elections, among other hobbies and interests.  Dale and Marie were both cancer survivors who believed that everyone, and especially every child, deserves the best, most up-to-date medical care and support.  To that end, they were strong advocates for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

in honor of that belief, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.  A memorial fund has been established in Donald Dale Anderson's memory and can be found at the following link:    https://fundraising.stjude.org/site/TR?px=8316903&fr id=154020&pg=persona

A graveside interment service will be held on Saturday, March 16, at 11 AM at West Hill Cemetery.
