Dawn Michele (Smith) Hammontree, age 52, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Joe and Dorothy Harris, Harlan and Deca Smith; nephew, Joshua Allen Hiott, aunt, Elinor Gillian; uncles, Kenneth Harris, Dewey Cavender, Ray Miolen; cousin, Greg Harris; mother of her fiancé, Louise Sanford.

She is survived by her fiancé, Scott Sanford of Chatsworth; sons, Austin Malijan of Dalton, and Joseph Malijan of Las Vegas NV; parents, David and Margaret Smith of Chatsworth; sister, Lisa Acree of Chatsworth; brothers David Lee Smith and Dale Landen both of Chatsworth; sons of her fiancé, David Powell and Daniel Sanford; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and friends also survive.

The family would like to thank all the great staff at Heartlite Hospice for the wonderful care that was given to Dawn during her courageous battle. A special thank you to Heather Parr. 

A service to honor the life of Dawn Michele Hammontree will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2023, in the chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home with Mitch Sanford officiating. The interment to follow will be in the Westhill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the God Only Knows Animal Rescue P.O. 725 Chatsworth GA 30705 in honor of Dawn.
