Darrel Ray Powell peacefully passed away at his residence surrounded by his loved ones on October 3, 2023. He was just shy of his 76th birthday.
Darrell was a native of Dodge City Kansas. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He met and married his sweetheart, Elaine. They were married through thick and thin for 53 years.
Darrel’s dream was to own his own Restaurant. He made that dream come true when he and Elaine opened Powell’s Country Kitchen. They ran the restaurant together for 35 years.
Darrel loved to play golf and to watch his grandson, Hogan, play soccer and football. Darrel and Elaine raised two children. The eldest is Chad Powell and his wife Heather together have 5 children. The youngest is Jason Powell. Darrel never has to worry about any yard work Jason always takes care of it.
Darrel leaves behind two brothers, Jerry Powell and his wife Pam Of Texas; Gene Powell and his wife Linda of Kansas; sister-in-law, Gene and Brenda Hall, brothers in laws Tommy (Heather) Hall, and Nelson (Missy) Hall.
Darrel is survived by five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, there are many nieces and nephews cousins, and friends that also survive. Many of them were there to give love and support during his illness. Darrel loved his family very much.
Darrel was a member of Calvery Baptist Church in Dalton GA. Elaine wanted to extend her love, for the support from her church family and especially to Pastor Jeff Bramlett. He was there to lend his love and prayers during this time.
Elaine and all the extended family wanted to thank everyone for all the prayers, texts, and calls. We appreciate all the love and support. There will be a “Celebration of life” get-together later.
Darrel will be missed by all. He was the rock for his family and we know he is in the arms of Jesus…. Until we meet again.
