Betty Sue (Harp) Hammett Obituary

Betty Sue Hammett, of Chatsworth, Georgia, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026. She was born on August 7, 1935, and lived a long, full life devoted to faith, family, and education.


A beloved school teacher for many years, she found great joy in teaching and mentoring generations of children. Her love for others extended far beyond the classroom as she faithfully led her adult ladies’ Sunday school class, sharing her kindness, wisdom, and love of the Lord with everyone she met.


She is survived by her daughter, Mary Beth Hammett of Chattanooga, Tennessee; her son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Sandy Hammett of Chatsworth, Georgia; two grandchildren, Nicole Brown and her husband Jacob of Marietta, Georgia, and Tyson Hammett and his fiancée Brooke of Chatsworth, Georgia; and four great-grandchildren, Sophia, Greyson, and twins Clara and Tucker, all of Chatsworth.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; her brothers, Kenneth and Rollie; and her sister, Nancy. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering faith, and her lifelong dedication to teaching and serving others.


Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, February 14, 2026, in the Chapel of  Shawn Chapman Funeral Home in Chatsworth with  Pastor Scott Linginfelter officiating. The interment will be in the  Springplace Cemetery.  The family will be receiving friends at the funeral Home on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
