On March 4th, Mr. Benny M Smith finally broke free from the terrible hold Alzheimer's had on him. You can now find him in Heaven most likely mowing some beautiful green grass.
Benny was a very caring and giving person. He was known for his good values and sense of humor. While he was always joking about something or other he was always there when anyone needed help.
Benny was an Air Force Veteran and was retired from Mohawk's Aladdin plant. He lived his entire 82 years here in Dalton.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Agnes Cox Smith: siblings, Mary Belle and Ed Eslinger, John F and Bertha Smith, Ralph and Eunice Smith, Glenna Gribble, Christine Hicks, Felton and Ruth Smith and Troy Dunn.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Glenda Smith. children Elaine, Greg, and Deborah Smith: sister, Betty Payne, sister in law Gail Dunn: Grandchildren, who he spoiled way too much, Courtney Oehlson , Tanner Ball and Paige Dean: Great-grandchildren Knox and Kash Oehlson and Memphis Ball: Many nieces and nephews and their families also survive
Per his instructions, there will be no funeral instead there will be a Celebration of Life Gathering Saturday, March 7th at Mt Rachel Baptist Church from 4 - 8 pm. Casual dress and some of his favorite foods will be served. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
