Thelma Locklear Obituary

Ms. Thelma Louise Jones “Lou” Locklear, 87, of 3349 Bracken Court, Marietta, died Sunday January 12, 2020, at Roselane Nursing Home in Marietta.

Ms. Locklear was born in Spring Place and spent many of her years in Chatsworth and Chattanooga, before settling in Marietta for the past few years. Lou was a faithful and proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was perhaps best known for her love of sports and, especially, the Atlanta Braves.

Ms. Locklear is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest “Dutch” and Lillian Jones of Chatsworth; niece LuAnn Green; and many aunts and uncles.

Survivors include one sister: Sue Green of Blue Ridge, children and their spouses: Bill and Bernie Locklear of Dunwoody, Jimmy and Jenny Locklear of Decatur, Debbie and Ben Buchanan of Marietta, Dr. Jody and Debbie Tudhope Locklear of Port Townsend, Wash., and one nephew, Mickey Green of Baltimore; grandchildren and spouses: Kim Locklear of Sandy Springs, Kyle and Andrew Hartman of Chamblee, Dane and Dylan Fisher of Port Townsend, Maj. Jameson (USAF) and Bethany Locklear of Washington, DC., Justin Locklear of Dallas, Texas, Jed Locklear of Decatur, Taylor Buchanan of Marietta, Chauncey Locklear and Aliina Lahti of Port Townsend, Lyris Locklear of Port Townsend and Dash Locklear of Port Townsend, great-grandchildren: Aberdeen and Joanna Locklear of Washington, DC., Elizabeth James Hartman of Chamblee, and Makee Sky Lahti-Locklear of Port Townsend.

Funeral service will be Friday, January 24, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home with Jimmy Locklear officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. on Friday.

At the deceased’s request, the body will be cremated. Burial of the ashes will be in Spring Place Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Spring Place Cemetery Committee, 329 Hwy 225 South, Spring Place, GA 30705 or to your favorite charity.
