Raymond Marshall Walls

Raymond Marshall Walls of Bremen, known as ‘Paw Paw’ to many, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 at his grandson, Kevin and Lindsey Kilgore’s residence in Bowdon, surrounded by his family. He was born in Murray County, March 8, 1937, son of the late Walter Walls and Dessie Roberts Walls. Mr. Walls was a graduate of Murray County High School. 

In high school he sang in the chorus, played basketball and baseball. Mr. Walls worked thirty years for the State of Georgia and retired 28 years ago as a Supervisor for the Department of Transportation in Surveying. He loved the outdoors, always having a garden and sharing the rewards with everyone. Fishing, quail hunting, golfing, pitching horse shoes, shooting pool and bowling were his favorite hobbies and coaching baseball was another love of his. He never met a stranger, always making you laugh, while being the Jokester and had a nickname for everyone. Sitting on his front porch with his family and friends, such as Coy Benefield and Paul Roberts, who frequented him often, was one of his favorite things to do. Mr. Walls was known for his cooking and even taught several to cook like Nikki Newman and enjoyed everyone bragging on his special recipes. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Davis Walls, to whom he married, July 28, 1957; a daughter, Cindy Walls; brothers, Emmett Walls, Marvin Walls and a sister, Marie Walls Worley. 

Survivors include his children, Kathy and Garry Kilgore of Bremen, Wesley and Melissa Walls of Roopville; grandchildren, Brad and Theresa Kilgore, Woodland, AL, Kevin and Lindsey Kilgore, Bowdon, Jennifer Kilgore of Blue Ridge, Dale Kilgore, Villa Rica; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Brooke Kilgore of Bowdon, Calvin Marshall McEntyre of Blue Ridge; brother, Bill Walls of Dalton; sisters, Trilba Walls Beavers, Dorothy Walls Worley, Linda Walls Reed, all of Chatsworth and a number of nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM.

Services will be Saturday, August 20 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Mr. Kevin Kilgore, Mr. Mike Murphy and Pastor Curtis Pixler officiating. Brad Kilgore, Kevin Kilgore, Dale Kilgore, Andrew House, Ray Kilgore and Josh Newman will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will b e Coy Benefield and Paul Roberts. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
